Our Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTOP) service provides access to assessment, information, and care for patients considering a medical termination in early pregnancy. A medical termination involves the use of prescribed medicines and is only suitable in certain clinical circumstances following consultation with a GP.
Patients will receive an individual assessment that may include a review of their medical history, clinical investigations, discussion of available options, and information about the risks, benefits, and follow‑up requirements associated with treatment. Recommendations and treatment plans are based on the patient’s individual circumstances and clinical needs.
Care is provided by appropriately qualified medical practitioners. Where clinically appropriate, the GP may arrange investigations, prescribe medication, provide follow‑up care, or refer the patient to another medical practitioner or specialist service.
Information provided by the practice is regularly reviewed to support clinical accuracy and reflects current evidence‑based practice at the time of publication. Patients are encouraged to discuss any questions or concerns with their GP, as medical advice and treatment recommendations may vary between individuals.
Call or speak to reception to learn more or book an appointment.
Unplanned pregnancy consultations support patients to understand their reproductive health options in a confidential and non-judgemental setting.
A GP may discuss contraception, pre-conception care, early pregnancy concerns, unplanned pregnancy support, and referral pathways where further care is required.
Consultations are tailored to the patient’s individual circumstances, medical history, preferences, and applicable clinical guidelines. The GP can provide information about available options, potential risks and benefits, and appropriate follow up, without replacing informed consent or specialist advice where needed.
Care may include counselling, prescriptions, investigations, or referral to another medical practitioner or service. Patients are encouraged to speak with their GP about any questions or concerns.
